January 2008 - December 2008
1. Executive Meetings
- Apr. 15, 2008 – Ratification of Officers and Appointees
- Sept. 27, 2008 – To discuss and tape TV and radio ads for Oct 14th General Election
2. 40th General Election
- An election was called (the writ was dropped) on September 7, 2008. We had many obligations to fulfill as an eligible party in order to become a fully registered party.
- We provided the Chief Electoral Officer the confirmation of the leader, the executive members and the appointees, as they appeared in the National Registry of Political Parties.
- 2 candidates ran in the election for the PPP Party:
- Roger F. Poisson – Winnipeg North, riding #46012
- Charles Prefontaine – Dauphin, Swan River, Maquette, riding #46004
- Sept. 21, 2008 – The PPP Party became a fully registered party with candidates nominated by the members of each of the ridings.
- Official Agents were appointed by each candidate:
Roger Poisson appointed Anna-Maria Everett
Charles Prefontaine appointed Jennifer Hendrickson
- The Party, Candidates and volunteers campaigned in the ridings, telephoned electors, put up posters, sent out flyers, issued receipts for income tax purposes to donors and took part in the 6 minutes of free broadcast time allocated to the Party by Elections Canada.
- Results of the Election for the Party Candidates were as follows:
Roger Poisson - 0.4% of votes where voter turnout was 43%
Charles Prefontaine - 0.3% of votes where voter turnout was 55%
- We thank all those who donated their time, energy and financial support during the election. It was an important time of awareness for people in Winnipeg, in Manitoba and all of Canada. Our website broke records on election night, Oct.14th, as hundreds of viewers watched for our results. We were unable to target as many electors with information as we had wanted to, due to the costs of advertising, limited funds and the small number of donations.
- Official Agents met with the Auditor to complete the financial requirements and filed their Returns for Candidates with Elections Canada. They closed the Candidates’ bank accounts within the prescribed time frame.
- Candidates and the Party were not reimbursed by the Government for election expenses due to the fact that the Candidates did not receive 2% of the vote in each of their ridings.
3. Candidate Audits
- Candidates Reports from all parties are required to be audited as prescribed by Elections Canada
- Our Candidates Reports were audited by the firm Chochinov, Porter, Hétu
- Total cost of the audits for the 2 Candidates was $1,890.00. Please see attached invoices: Page 1, 2
4. Party Audit
The Party was required by Elections Canada to have an auditor prepare a statement of Assets and Liabilities up to the day that we became a fully registered Party.
- Accounting and auditing was completed by the firm of Talbot and Associates.
- Accounting and auditing covered the periods: for the year ending March 31, 2007 to September 20, 2008
- Total cost of the accounting and auditing was $2,700.00 for payment in February 2009. Please see attached invoice: Page 1, 2, 3.
5. Statement of Loss
A completed accounting by Talbot and Associates at the end of the election period shows our Party standing with a net loss of $2,531.00. Please see attached report.
We sent several appeals for financial support to members throughout the year as well as to the general public through our website. We continue to appeal to your generosity of heart so that we can spread the vision of a new Canada throughout all of the country.
We are with all of you. Let’s work together and make our dreams realities!
Sincerely,
Roger Poisson Leader,
People’s Political Power Party of Canada
